IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine baseball team was originally scheduled to be on the road against Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday as the regular season opener but was canceled due to the weather. The teams made some changes to their schedules and moved Friday's scheduled game to Irvine at the Golden Eagles Field.
The Golden Eagles took control of the game offensively and scored in five of the nine innings. CUI had 10 hits throughout the game and
Isaiah Walz blasted the first home run of the season for the Green and Gold to get an early 3-0 lead in the third and never gave up the lead.
In the fifth CUI scored another three runs with an error from the Toros, a two RBI single from
Landry Spitler, and a sacrifice fly from
David Baruch III. The Toros were able to score five runs but it wasn't enough and the Golden Eagles closed out the game with a final score 9-5.

Isaiah Walz,
Wyatt Madison,
Landry Spitler, and
Jordan Bolden all had two hits each. Transfers
Nicholas Erickson and
Anthony Pacino made their first start in the green and gold jerseys for CUI.
Preseason All-American Jake Covey started on the mound for CUI going 7.1 innings allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out eight and earning his first win of the season. Freshman
Nathan Hunter made his debut pitching 1.2 innings finishing the game with three hits and two strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles will continue their series against Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday Feb. 8 with a doubleheader and start times 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. They will make up their Thursday game Monday Feb. 10 at CSU Dominguez Hills in Carson, Calif.
