HONOLULU, Hawai'i – The Concordia University Irvine baseball team started their Chaminade series on the road with a high note getting an 8-1 victory. The Golden Eagles never let the Chaminade get going and held them to only one run.
Senior
Jake Covey started on the mound for CUI and was lights out going eight innings and only allowed four hits and one earned run while striking out a whopping 12 hitters.
Troy May came in as reliever to pitch the last inning for CUI.
The starting seven in the lineup for the Green and Gold had at least one hit while six of the nine contributed with at least one hit.
Sawyer Voortman and
Wyatt Madison continue to impress at the top of the lineup as they tallied two hits each.
The Golden Eagles had a hot start scoring five of their eight runs in the first inning. Bolden drew a walk which led to the first RBI for the Green and Gold followed by a fielder's choice from
David Baruch III that brought
Landry Spitler home.
Haku Dudoit hit a two run RBI to right center and
Isaiah Walz added another RBI single to extend their lead with five runs.
In the fourth inning the Silverswords were able to score a run on a wild pitch but the Golden Eagles didn't let up. CUI went on to score another three runs in the sixth and seventh inning. In the seventh the two runs were scored off a wild pitch and passed ball from Chaminade pitching.
The Golden Eagles will play a double header against Chaminade Sunday Mar. 2 at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. PST with both games going to seven innings. They will conclude their series on Monday Mar. 3 at 8 p.m. PST against the Silverswords.
