Golden Eagles Tame The APU Cougars For A Friday Sweep

IRVINE, Calif. - The Golden Eagles faced off against the APU Cougars in a doubleheader on Friday evening. Some great baseball was played during the competitions.

Opening up the first game, Jamison King was on the mound for CUI. Coming into the game, King had a 5.75 ERA in 2 games pitched this season. In this evening's game, Jamison King had a solid outing, throwing 4.2 innings with 4 ERs.

The Cougars were the first to strike in the top of the 3rd, scoring their total four runs, including a three-run home run. Despite being down, the Golden Eagles came right back with 2 runs of their own from Isaiah Walz, who singled to left center, and then Wyatt Madison, who also singled but to right field.

Fast forward to the bottom of the 7th, took the lead with an absolutely blasted shot to left-center field, scoring three Golden Eagles taking the lead 5-4. Sawyer Voortman followed the footsteps of Madison, also doubling down the right field line, trading places with him on second base, and helping CUI go up 6-4.

When all was said and done, the Golden Eagles eventually went up 8-4, finishing the comeback in the first game and winning over the Cougars.

Heading into the second game, the Golden Eagles wanted to ride that wave of momentum from the first game and did not disappoint. In this game, CUI struck first, scoring two runs in the first inning with a bomb shot from Wyatt Madison homering over right-center field.

After that home run, the bats went quiet, and the Cougars took advantage of that silence. The Cougars opened up their bats in the top of the 3rd and held onto a 4-2 lead up until the fifth inning.

Seeing APU score those four runs in the third, the Golden Eagles wanted to respond back, bigger and better. CUI entered the bottom of the fifth, being down 2 runs, but when all was said and done, were up 10-4 after some great offensive power was displayed. In total, the Golden Eagles went through 8 out of their 9-player starting lineup, scoring eight runs and taking a 10-4 lead.

At the end of the game, CUI took game two of the series and went on to win 11-6, going 2-0 on the day versus the Cougars. If you want to follow more CUI baseball this season, CLICK HERE to view their full schedule.
