HONOLULU, HI – The CUI softball team bounced back in a big way, defeating Chaminade 16-6 in the third game of their series. After splitting yesterday's doubleheader, the Golden Eagles sealed the win early with a mercy rule finish.
CUI 16, Chaminade 6 (Mercy Rule)
The Golden Eagles came out strong, putting five runs on the board in the first inning. Kaliya Yco started things off with an RBI double down the line, followed by Shelby Pfeiler, who singled to right for a two-run RBI. Kayla Simpson then added a two-run single to right field, putting CUI ahead 5-0.
In the second inning, CUI scored three more runs. Audrey Robles led off with a double to center, and Yco singled to left. Pfeiler then singled to left, scoring Robles, and Shelli Faulk hit a sacrifice fly to right, bringing in Yco. Kayla Simpson followed with an RBI single to score Pfeiler, extending the lead to 8-0.
The Golden Eagles added eight more runs in the third inning. Gabby Villa tripled down the right field line, followed by an RBI single from Jessica Im. Kayla Rodgers tripled with an RBI, and Robles added an RBI single. Yco and Pfeiler both singled, and Caitlynn Campbell's RBI single brought in another run. Noelani Ching pinch-hit a three-run double, and Riley Bigley pinch-hit with an RBI single, making it 16-1.
Chaminade scored one run in the bottom 3rd and five runs in the bottom 4th inning, but the Golden Eagles' lead was too much, and the game ended by mercy rule.
Kailey Estes earned the win, improving to 2-0 on the season.

CUI will face Hawaii Pacific on Saturday, March 8th, at 2:00 PM (12:00 PM HT) in Honolulu.
