Texter's Big Day Helps CUI Men's Lacrosse Stun Westminster

WESTMINSTER, Utah - Concordia University Irvine men's lacrosse secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming RMAC Division conference tournament with an exciting come-from-behind 14-8 victory Saturday over Westminster.

Senior Max Texter led the way with a career-high five goals on the day. He scored at least once in every period and also added an assist on a goal by Brody MacDonald in the fourth. That helped made it 12-7 Golden Eagles before Texter's final tally of the day pushed the score to 14-7 for the exclamation mark.

Texter was named the Peach Belt RMAC Division Offensive Player of the Week after his standout performance. The road victory pushed CUI up to 6-6 overall and 5-2 in league play.

The Golden Eagles have played one of the hardest schedules this season in all of NCAA DII men's lacrosse, with seven games coming against nationally-ranked opponents. This includes contests with top-ranked Tampa and defending national champion Adelphi as well as that thrilling overtime win over nationally-ranked Rollins on Concordia's home turf, and a narrow 8-7 loss to then-No. 19 Colorado Mesa.

MacDonald finished with a pair of goals to help the offense, Chad McFadden added two goals and an assist, while Jeremy Barnes chipped in with a goal and an assist.

Daniel Yang collected eight saves and improved to 5-3 this season between the pipes.

LOCKED IN

Concordia assured itself of another rematch with Westminster as the Golden Eagles will face the Griffins in less than two weeks in the semifinals of the RMAC Division Conference Tournament. That playoff game will be on Thursday, April 24 and hosted by Colorado Mesa. It's part of a four-team bracket that will feature the two winners of Thursday's semifinals facing off on Saturday, April 26 for the RMAC Division Conference Championship.  The team that survives gets to then travel to Florida and face the winner of the Peach Belt Division for the automatic qualifier bid in the NCAA DII Tournament.  No RMAC team has earned that chance yet since CUI joined the conference.
