Dowdle Records Career High 17 Kills Against Menlo

IRVINE, Calif. – The CUI men's volleyball team was back in action Friday in the CU Arena as they continue conference play against Menlo and will be closing out regular season conference play this week. After dropping two matches against Menlo a couple weeks ago the Golden Eagles were looking for a rematch. The Oaks were able to come back and win in four sets after dropping the first set with scores 17-25, 25-16, 27-25, 25-20.

Graduate student Justin Dowdle was unstoppable offensively and finished the game with 17 kills while hitting over .400. This is the second time this season he has reached double digit kills and marks a career high while at CUI.

Both outside hitters contributed throughout the match and each reached double digits as well. Ties Cornelissen had another double-double night recording 13 kills and 11 digs while still hitting a whopping .409. Christian Galoppo finished the game with 15 kills and eight digs from the back row.

Nathan Habermas was effective out of the middle going 5-for-9 with no errors while Cole Wachter had two kills and four blocks on the night. With the middles being a target in left back for one rotation when serving Wachter picked up three digs and Habermas adding one.

Colin Marks and Kasey Clouet both ran the offense for CUI and had 35 and 11 assists respectively. Marks had an ace and dig up eight from right back. Cruse Ae'a and Troy Fleming were both in the libero jersey and had a combined 10 digs.

The Golden Eagles will conclude regular season conference play against Menlo College Saturday Apr. 19 with a 7 p.m. start time. CUI will honor their seniors and the ceremony will be after the game.
