CUI Claws For Points

ATHERTON, Calif. – The Concordia men's volleyball team was looking for a rematch against Menlo for another night but the Oaks continued their momentum from yesterday in to today winning in three sets with scores 25-18, 30-28, and 25-17.

The middles had a tough night with John Rzepniewski and Nathan Habermas earning a total of three kills and put up a solid block with four block assists.

Sophomore Ties Cornelissen continues to be unstoppable offensively as he had 15 kills with a hitting percentage of .419. Christian Galoppo finished the match with nine kills and defensively had five digs and two block assists. Gage Doble and Makua Marumoto had a combined four kills and eight digs.

Colin Marks was the setter for the Golden Eagles and dished out 29 assists and had three digs from right back. Marks was also a force offensively as he threw down three kills. Cruse Ae'a was the libero in the back and had six digs and four assists throughout the match.

The Golden Eagles were up by one point in the second set with a score 22-21 but the Oaks earned three consecutive points to take set point but a hitting error from their team kept CUI alive. A couple more hitting errors from the Oaks and an ace from Galoppo gave the Golden Eagles a slight edge again. The set toggled between both teams again and going the distance where Menlo closed out the set 30-28.

Menlo went on a nine point run in the third set that made it hard for the Golden Eagles to come back from and finished the match 25-17.

The Golden Eagles will host and close out the series against Menlo starting Friday Apr. 18 and Saturday Apr. 19 with start times at 7 p.m.
