SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Concordia University Irvine men's soccer came up just short on Saturday evening, falling 1-0 in a tough road match.
The first half was a defensive battle, with both sides limiting scoring opportunities. Goalkeeper Sebastian Marin tallied a save in the opening 45 minutes to help keep the score even at the break.
CUI nearly broke through in the 60th minute after earning a corner kick. Jonathan Moreno served a dangerous ball into the box, where Anthony Ocampo connected with a strong header on target. CSUSB goalie came up with a diving save to deny the chance.
The Eagles continued to push forward but conceded the deciding goal in the 79th minute. Despite several late efforts, including multiple shots and a final corner in the closing moments, CUI couldn't find the equalizer.
Marin finished with three saves in goal, while the Eagles held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
The men will return home on Monday, Sept.22 at 6:30 p.m. to play under the lights at Golden Eagles Field.
