FULLERTON, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine men's water polo team capped off their third tournament with an encouraging pair of victories against D1 opponent Air Force and D3 regional rival Chapman.
This marked the first victory for Concordia over Air Force since an overtime victory over the Falcons in 2019 and just the second win since 2017.
Kai Young was fantastic and racked up four goals in both Concordia victories to lead the offense. He also finished the day with a recorded assist and was credited with one steal in each game.
CUI 15, Air Force 14
Hugo Wouters scored five times and added three assists for eight points in the battle with the Falcons.
Dimitrios Koritsas also had a strong grasp of the offense and scored five times with two helpers.
Porter Rosenlof and Nicolas Fush each contributed two assists while helping on the defensive end as well. CUI held the Falcons to only one power play goal on
Kaliq Khan won the first two sprints and Diamond gave CUI the first possession to start the third period as well. Getting the ball first was crucial in what ended up being a one-goal game.
CUI 13, Chapman 7
Goalkeeper Pablo De Souza recorded a career-high 21 saves in the nightcap against Chapman. After playing a football school earlier in the day, CUI defeated the Cougars by a NFL-like margin of 13-7.
It was a two-score game after three periods at 7-5 in favor of the Golden Eagles, but CUI pulled away by winning the final quarter by a count of 6-2.

Kaliq Khan and freshman
Carter Clenney all found the back of the net on the power play.
Diamond finished with a pair of goals and two assists, while Wouters also corralled two recorded steals along with two goals and a helper.
The CUI men's water polo team improved to 7-5 with the two Saturday victories and now turns its attention to its upcoming home opener. That will be this Thursday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. against UC San Diego at Woollett Aquatics Center.
