IRVINE, Calif. – As the CUI women's volleyball team are gearing up for the start of conference play next week they faced off against Hawai'i Hilo in a non-conference match up on Saturday. The two teams battled it out but the Vulcans came up with the win in four sets 25-23, 16-25, 25-16, and 25-23.
Golden Eagles serving was one for the books as
Emma Wegleitner tallied a record high of six aces in four sets tying two former players from 2024 and 2015.
Kayden Croy added another three from the back line with
Halen Kiefer and
Nevada Knowles contributing two each. Those four players marked a team high of the 2025 season with 13 aces beating their previous of 12 earlier in the month.
Sofia Ajmal led the Green and Gold with 13 kills and Wegleitner was right behind with another double-double night of 11 kills and digs. Croy had seven kills and digs while Knowles is not only running the offense having 37 assists but also throwing down four kills to throw the Vulcans defense off.
Middles put up an impressive performance with
Delaney Gregg earning nine kills and
Caitlin Jarrell adding six. Freshman
Gabby Johnson came into the game and earned her first kill in the CUI jersey out of the middle.
Kiefer was in the libero jersey for the night and had a team-high of 12 digs.
Kendyll Winn and
Avery Banaag came into the game as defensive specialists for pin hitters.
The Golden Eagles will have their PacWest conference opener as they host Chaminade Monday Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
