IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team opened its home schedule with an impressive 2-0 victory over No. 24 Cal State Dominguez Hills on the Golden Eagles home field.
The win was a special one for the program, marking the first career victory for new head coach Joshua Glover.Â
The first half was closely fought until Cal State Dominguez Hills went down a man after receiving a red card. With the Toros forced to play shorthanded, the Eagles stayed disciplined and continued to create opportunities.
In the second half, Concordia broke through. Kevin Sanchez scored the opening goal with a header, assisted by Jonathan Moreno and Nathan Nava, sending the home crowd into celebration. Concordia doubled the lead later in the match when Bryan Maldonado slotted in the second goal, assisted by Sanchez and Domenyk Jara, giving the Golden Eagles the 2-0 advantage they carried through the final whistle.
With the victory, Concordia not only protected their home turf but also proved they can compete with and defeat nationally ranked opponents.
CUI men's soccer will be back at home on Wednesday, September 10, at 6:30 p.m., when the Golden Eagles face No. 18 Cal Poly Pomona in another tough non-conference match up.
