ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's basketball team earned an important Pacific West Conference road victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Jessup University 81–77 at Warrior Arena.
The Golden Eagles improved to 9–7 overall and 6–4 in PacWest play, overcoming a four-point halftime deficit with a strong second-half effort. Concordia shot 50.0 percent from the field in the second half and relied on timely defense and free-throw shooting late to close out the win.
MaCarhy Morris led all scorers with 22 points, finishing a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line while adding three assists. Marcellus Edwards followed with 17 points, highlighted by a late steal and fast-break dunk that gave Concordia a three-point advantage with just over two minutes remaining. Kaden Minter added 13 points, and Nicholas Corbettcontributed 11 points, giving the Golden Eagles four players in double figures.
Concordia trailed 43–39 at halftime but chipped away throughout the second half. A three-pointer from Minter at the 14:59 mark cut the deficit to three, and moments later, his fast-break layup tied the game at 49–49. The contest remained close until Edwards scored four straight points in the final minutes to swing the lead in favor of the Golden Eagles.
Jessup was led by Cayden McDaniel, who scored 21 points, while Tom Parsons added 16 points off the bench. The Warriors shot 52.0 percent from the field but were limited to 1-for-7 shooting from three-point range in the second half.
Concordia finished the game 23-for-28 (82.1%) from the free-throw line and forced 20 Jessup turnovers, converting them into key scoring opportunities.
The Golden Eagles will continue Pacific West Conference play in their next matchup, traveling to Hawaii to face Hawaii Hilo on Wednesday, Jan. 22.
