ORANGE, Calif. –
Carissa Ward snagged a pair of second place finishes in the 100 backstroke and the 400 IM to lead the Concordia women's swim and dive team on Saturday against Occidental College and host Chapman University.
The Texas native out of Johnson High School posted a season-best time of 1:00.42 seconds, shaving nearly half a second off her previous best mark in the 100 backstroke.
Aliyah Treadwell also touched the wall with her best time of the season and came in right behind teammate
Alexandra Grant in that same event.
In the 400 IM, Ward was faster than everyone except Chapman's Maizie Stricker. The leading pair were separated by about 2.5 seconds, while Ward was nearly five seconds ahead of the third place finisher. CUI's
Aubrie Carver took seventh as the Golden Eagles matched Oxy with two swimmers in the top seven.
Among the other highlights of the day for CUI,
Aranza Martha cut almost a full second off her sprint in the 50 free by completing the two lengths of the pool in just 26.28 seconds. The San Diego native took third place while CUI teammate Lily Hartwell was also Top 8 in that event.
CUI diver
Kaylee Hurley, who
recently set a school record in points in 1-meter diving, also turned in another solid day at the office. Hurley finished in second place out of five divers with 198.60 points on Saturday in the 1-meter competition.
