Darcuiel Scores 21 Straight vs Jessup

IRVINE, Calif. – Apparently Concordia freshman Asia Darcuiel likes playing against Jessup.

The talented young guard from San Diego helped the Golden Eagles sweep the season series with the Warriors and was the catalyst for a big 73-45 home victory on Thursday night.

Darcuiel led all players with a career-high 29 points and almost single-handedly powered the offense during a key stretch in the second half. The Lincoln High School alum scored 21 consecutive points for her team during a stretch from the middle of the third quarter deep into the fourth.

"Asia is a special talent, and she has shown consistent growth from the moment she stepped on campus," said Collins-Kiernan. "She understands she's far from a finished product, but her joy for the game and her growth mindset continue to push her past any outside noise. I'm really excited to see where her career goes moving forward. This was a big win for our program and a great step toward finishing strong."

Two-time PacWest Defender of the Week Genesis Hopkins secured her sixth double-double as she collected 11 points and 12 rebounds.

CUI won every period and led 40-26 at intermission. The Warriors cut it to single digits in the second half before Darcuiel took over.

"January has been a month for learning how to find wins and consistency on the road," said CUI head coach Christine Collins-Kiernan. "Being able to get back on our home floor was important to help us re-center and drive forward. We got back to pressuring the ball, playing aggressive, and hunting the kinds of shots that are good for us as a team. We moved the ball well, generated a lot of assisted baskets, and for the first time in a while really controlled the boards."

Concordia improves to 8-5 in PacWest play with an overall record of 10-8. The Golden Eagles remained in sixth place in the ongoing chase for the top six spots that will clinch a berth in the upcoming PacWest Conference Tournament in March.
