COSTA MESA, Calif. –
MaCarhy Morris scored 25 points and
Nick Corbett added 14 on Saturday in a close contest between Concordia University Irvine and Vanguard University.
Marcellus Edwards added a dozen points and was aided by a superb 8-for-8 night at the free throw line. However, Vanguard built a 10-point lead by closing the first half on a nice run and then held on down the stretch for a 76-69 victory.ss
Vanguard did a good job defending the three-point line. CUI shot just 3-for-15 from deep while the Lions ended up 7-for-14, which included an off-balance banked in triple late in the shot clock on one Vanguard possession.
Despite the loss, Concordia still remains in the top six in the conference standings and is on pace to make the PacWest Conference Championships.
The top six teams at the end of the regular season will qualify for the conference tournament.
Concordia and Vanguard are part of a logjam of five PacWest teams that have eight losses. At 11-8 in conference play, the Golden Eagles are in fifth place as the weekend slate comes to a close.

Next up for Concordia is a date in San Diego with the rival Point Loma Sea Lions.
The last home game of the season will be on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 7:15 p.m. PT on Senior Night against the Hawaii Pacific Sharks.
