IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia Golden Eagles were hype for their home opener and first conference game as a member of the Western Water Polo Association on Friday. The Green and Gold even got to host a night game to kick things off against their rivals from Biola University.
Fittingly, sophomore
Anna Tyukasz opened the scoring with a goal roughly four minutes into the contest to put CUI up 1-0 to the delight of the home fans.
After Biola moved in front by a couple of goals,
Sierrah Ferguson's goal brought CUI within 4-3 midway through the second period.
Alexa De Villiers promptly started the third period the right way with a quick goal on the first Concordia possession after halftime.
Munroe Blem and Edwards scored again in the third to keep the Golden Eagles within striking distance.
However, Biola scored the last three goals of the game to distance themselves and secure a 13-6 victory.
Hannah Edwards wound up leading the team in scoring with two goals while
Kennedy Brubaker chipped in with two assists.
Mia Hueston and Edwards each won two sprints to help Concordia sweep that part of the contest 4-0.
Marilyn Rodriguez-Garcia de Leon also came up with four saves in the cage.
Next up for Concordia is another opportunity to play at home in just a few days. The Golden Eagles will host Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. PT and then the Michigan Wolverines on Tuesday, March 3 at the same time. Both games will be at Woollett Aquatics Center as well.
