Golden Eagles Push No. 2 LBSU to Four Sets

IRVINE, CALIF. – The Golden Eagles opened strong with a 25-19 first-set win before Long Beach State University responded to take the next three sets 17-25, 18-25, and 14-25 on Friday night inside the CU Arena.

The Green and Gold set the tone early, controlling the opening frame with aggressive serving and efficient offense. CUI capitalized on its opportunities in transition and limited errors to secure the first set, energizing the home crowd and establishing momentum from the start.

Logan Whitaker led the way with a well-rounded performance, topping the team in three statistical categories. He finished with 13 kills, added two service aces, and chipped in two digs, consistently providing a spark offensively and from the service line.

Nathan Habermas was dominant in the middle, hitting an impressive .667 while adding two block assists. His efficiency helped the Golden Eagles stay balanced offensively, especially during their strong opening-set performance.

On the outside, Christian Galoppo and Myles Henderson delivered efficient outings. Galoppo hit .500, finding open space and terminating at a high rate, while Henderson added a .429 hitting percentage, giving CUI steady production on the pins and helping keep pressure on the Beach defense.

Despite the final result, the Green and Gold showed their ability to compete at a high level and execute efficiently across multiple positions, building confidence as the season progresses.

UP NEXT: The Green and Gold will take on LBSU again tomorrow in Long Beach at 7 p.m.
