LONG BEACH, Calif. – After going to four sets Friday night the Concordia University Irvine men's volleyball team was looking for another chance to take on No. 2 Long Beach State on the road Saturday. The Beach won in three sets with scores 25-17, 25-23, and 25-21.
Logan Whitaker emerged as the standout offensive force with 15 kills and an impressive hitting percentage of .345. Whitaker's aggressive approach at the net was complemented by
Kai Vogel and
Christian Galoppo who both chipped in eight kills. Galoppo had a team-high of four digs from the back row.
The Golden Eagles brought their serving game as Whitaker and Vogel had two aces each that the Beach could not handle. Galoppo and
Paul Schulteis racked up an ace each that Long Beach State could not return.
Out of the middle Schulteis recorded three kills and
Nathan Habermas added one with a combined three block assists.
Matt Fisher and
Aidan Case ran the offense and had 18 and 13 assists respectively.
Troy Fleming and
Joseph Nunez wore the libero jersey and split their time on the court throughout the match.
CUI will be back in action for MPSF play as they will face off against Menlo in the CU Arena Friday Mar. 6 at 6 p.m.
