Late Push Falls Short

La Mirada, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's basketball team fell on the road Wednesday evening, dropping a 69-54 contest to Biola University at Chase Gym. The Golden Eagles move to 14-12 overall and 12-9 in PacWest play.

CUI 54, BIOLA 69

Concordia opened the game aggressively, taking an early 5-2 lead after a three-pointer from Hannah Vela and strong inside play from Genesis Hopkins. However, Biola responded with an 18-point first quarter and carried a 28-19 advantage into halftime as the Golden Eagles were held to just one field goal in the second period.

CUI found its rhythm in the third quarter, shooting 47 percent from the field and outscoring the Eagles 19-14 in the frame. Camryn Kiernan and Asia Darcuiel sparked the offense during the stretch, helping Concordia trim the deficit to four points heading into the final quarter.

The Golden Eagles continued to battle in the fourth and cut the lead to just two points midway through the period after a layup from Myia Collins made it 42-44. Biola answered with a decisive run down the stretch, shooting over 80 percent in the fourth quarter to pull away late.

Hopkins led Concordia with 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for a double-double. Darcuiel and Collins each added nine points, while Kiernan contributed eight. Vela filled the stat sheet with seven points, six rebounds, and five assists as CUI recorded 28 points in the paint and forced 18 points off turnovers.
