IRVINE, CALIF. - In a high-scoring opening match-up (CUI - 7, CSUDH - 11), the Golden Eagles battled from the first pitch and showed grit against a powerful Dominguez Hills. CUI exploded early in the first inning with a flurry of hits, highlighted by a triple from
Isaiah Walz that drove in two runs and continued to put pressure on the Toros throughout the frame. The Green and Gold jumped ahead 5-3 after the opening frame, displaying energy and timely hitting.
Even though the Toro's lineup found ways to rally, particularly with a multi-run 9th inning, the Golden Eagles refused to back down.
Wyatt Madison led the team with three hits and a couple of RBI's, showing the kind of consistency in the lineup that will be valuable all season. Across the diamond, the Green and Gold's offense tallied 14 hits, which kept them competitive deep into the game.
GAME 2: CUI - 1, CSUDH 7
In the second game of the day, the Golden Eagles kept the game within reach through the early innings despite a strong performance from the Toros on the mound. This contest featured a quieter offensive night for the Green and Gold, but one bright moment came from
Isaiah Walz, whose solo shot in the 4th inning showcased the power present in the lineup.
Concordia's pitching staff competed hard, mixing strikeouts with intelligent pitch sequences that limited extra-base hits in several tough situations. Though the final score was 1-7, the Golden Eagles' hustle showed in every inning. They continued to battle defensively, turning routine plays into opportunities and running on the bases whenever they arose. Even with a few innings when runs slipped away, the Green and Gold's resilience never wavered, a promising sign that this roster is learning to compete through adversity and will be better for it as the season continues.
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles will be back on their home field next Friday and Saturday in the first conference match-up against Chaminade. Friday's games are at 2 PM and 5:30 PM, followed by Saturday's 1 PM and 4:30 PM doubleheader.
