IRVINE, Calif. – CUI men's basketball defeated Hawai'i Hilo 69–51 using balanced scoring and disciplined defense to control the game from start to finish.. Five players scored seven or more points as CUI spread the workload and stayed productive throughout the game.
Kaden Minter led all scorers with 16 points shooting 6-for-15 from the field and 3-for-8 from three-point range. He also pulled down six rebounds and added three assists.
Kevin Haupt delivered a strong performance off the bench scoring 14 points. The sophomore was highly efficient going 5-for-6 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. The four trey's ties his career-high from earlier this season against CSUSB.
Payback for the first meeting:
"It was amazing," said
Kevin Haupt. "Losing to them at their place wasn't fun, but we fixed what we needed to fix and the results showed that." The key was our ball movement," added Haupt. "We were having fun with it and that's when we are at our best."
MaCarhy Morris finished with 11 points, added four assists and a team-high three steals.
Marcellus Edwards contributed nine points while recording three rebounds and three assists.
Ben Krystkowiak added seven points while
Nick Corbett made an impact on the glass. Corbett finished with seven rebounds including four offensive boards to go along with four points and two assists.
Roman Rose came into the game knocking down a three-pointer while
Radek Homer added three points at the free-throw line and grabbed one rebound.
James Freeman came into the game to throw down a jaw-dropping dunk along with
Logan Cremonesi,
Jackson Tucker, and
Akeem Akeredolu saw time and contributed defensively.
The Golden Eagles will be on the road for the next four games before coming back to the CU Arena. They will start in Santa Barbara, Calif. at Westmont Wednesday Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
