ALAMOSA, Colo. – Concordia University Irvine men's lacrosse turned in a commanding performance on Friday afternoon, defeating Adams State 21-4 to improve to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
The Golden Eagles started steadily, taking a 1-0 lead after the first quarter, before breaking the game open in the second. Concordia erupted for nine goals in the period to head into halftime with a 10-3 advantage.
Jeremy Barnes led the way offensively with a game-high five goals and one assist. He was part of a balanced attack that saw 13 different players find the back of the net.
Several Golden Eagles recorded multiple goals, including Max Texter, Jack Tanner, Justin Yoon, and Brody Wallace with two apiece. Noah Pillow contributed one goal and two assists, while Erik Hollis added a goal and an assist in a strong all-around showing.
Concordia controlled the game statistically from start to finish, outshooting Adams State 59-24 and holding a 37-23 edge in ground balls. The Golden Eagles also dominated faceoffs, winning 22 of 29, helping maintain possession throughout the contest.
Defensively, Concordia limited Adams State to just eight shots on goal. Goalkeeper Brody Woods earned the win with three saves, while Zane Coda added one save in relief.
After allowing three goals in the second quarter, the Golden Eagles tightened up defensively and gave up just one goal over the final two periods while adding 11 goals of their own to close out the win.
Concordia returns to action Sunday as they take on Colorado Mesa at 12:00 p.m.
