PROVO, UTAH - Concordia University Irvine found a bright spot on the road as Wesley Newton turned in a career-best performance in a battle against the BYU Cougars.
Newton was dominant offensively, posting a stellar .600 hitting percentage while leading the charge at the net. His efficiency gave the Golden Eagles a consistent scoring option throughout the match, and his solo block provided a key momentum swing, energizing the Green and Gold during critical stretches.
Defensively, Joseph Nunez anchored the back row with a team-high six digs, keeping rallies alive and giving the Golden Eagles opportunities to counter against a tough BYU attack. His effort and composure helped Concordia stay competitive from start to finish.
Although the final result didn't fall in their favor, the Golden Eagles showed resilience behind Newton's breakout night and Nunez's defensive presence, signaling positive momentum as the season continues.
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles will still be on the road next week, taking on UC Merced at 6pm on both the 27th and 28th.
