IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine women's tennis team took on Middlebury in a Tuesday match-up. This is just third time these two teams have collided and Middlebury took the match today by a 7-0 score.
At the No. 1 doubles position the pairing of
Bryn Johnson and
Keona Gutierrez Dearmond battled hard against Middlebury. The CUI duo stayed competitive and continued to fight for every point ultimately falling 6–2 in a match that featured several extended rallies and moments of strong net play. In the No. 2 and No. 3 spots the Panthers were able to secure the win over CUI with a 6-0 score for both.
In singles Johnson took on the No. 1 slot of the Panthers and delivered a competitive performance battling through long rallies and showcasing her consistency from the baseline. Johnson pushed through a 6–2 and 6–3 match earning key games.
Kristyna Dvorakova highlighted the strongest showings at No. 2 slot keeping things tight throughout her match with Panther Anna Lardner. Dvorakova stayed within striking distance in both sets ultimately falling 6–3 and 7–5 in a contest.
Gutierrez Dearmond took two games in each set over Middlebury in the third slot.
Mikayla Avila and
Ashley Aziz were in the No. 4 and No. 5 slot in the singles but the Panthers secured the win keeping the Golden Eagles scoreless. At the No. 6 position
Mianna Robinson closed out singles play with grit earning a game in the second set.
The Golden Eagles will have their last home game of the season at the Racquet Club in Irvine on Friday Mar. 27 at 1 p.m.
