IRVINE, Calif. — Concordia University Irvine delivered a statement day at the ballpark, taking the series over No. 5 Point Loma behind a dramatic walk-off victory and a complete team effort across Saturday's doubleheader.
The day's defining moment came in the first game, the third of the series, when the Green and Gold showed their resilience in a back-and-forth battle. With the game on the line in the bottom of the ninth, Nic Erickson stepped up and delivered the biggest swing of the day, ripping a walk-off hit to secure the win and clinch the series for the Golden Eagles. The clutch moment sent the dugout into celebration and highlighted the team's ability to rise in pressure situations.
Throughout the game, the Golden Eagles stayed composed, matching Point Loma inning for inning and finding ways to keep themselves within striking distance. Timely hitting and disciplined at-bats allowed Concordia to capitalize late, setting the stage for Erickson's walk-off.
In the second game of the day, Concordia continued to battle against one of the top teams in the nation. The Golden Eagles once again showed their depth, competing on both sides of the ball and continuing to pressure the Sea Lions. Strong pitching performances and defensive consistency kept the game competitive, while the offense worked to generate opportunities against a tough Point Loma staff.
More importantly, the day as a whole underscored Concordia's grit and consistency. Securing the series against a top-five opponent is no small feat, and doing so in walk-off fashion only added to the significance of the win.
With the series victory over No. 5 Point Loma now secured, the Golden Eagles move to No. 3 in the conference behind No. 5 PLNU and No. 22 Westmont.
UP NEXT: The Green and Gold will be taking on No. 22 Westmont at 2pm and 5:30pm on Friday, April 4th.
