SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine men's lacrosse team delivered a commanding offensive performance erupting for 21 goals against Dominican while holding the Penguins to only five goals.
Leading the charge was
Jeremy Barnes who turned in a sensational performance with six goals and two assists. Barnes was aggressive from the opening whistle firing 14 shots and putting constant pressure on the Penguins setting the tone for the Golden Eagles high-powered attack.
Jack Lepore orchestrated the offense with precision tallying five goals and four assists for a team-best nine points. Close behind was
Matt Carresi who contributed four goals and four assists.
Ryan Tabor added two goals while
Max Texter and
Gabriel Skegin-Sipes each found the back of the net for one goal each.
The midfield and defensive units also played a critical role in the win.
Cade Poe dominated at the faceoff winning 10 of 12 draws and collecting a team-high eight ground balls giving CUI consistent possession.
Joseph Switzer and
Dawson Loudermilk also contributed at the faceoff stripe helping the Green and Gold maintain control throughout the game.
Defensively Concordia was active and disruptive. Multiple players recorded caused turnovers including
Cameron Regenstreif and
Jake Cloutier while the team collectively battled for ground balls to limit second-chance opportunities.
In goal CUI received a strong two part performance from
Zane Coda and
Brody Woods. Coda handled the bulk of the game playing 45 minutes while allowing just four goals and making eight saves to earn the win. Woods closed things out over the final 15 minutes adding six saves while surrendering only one goal preserving the commanding lead over Dominican. Together the duo combined for 14 saves and played a key role in limiting the Penguins scoring chances rounding out a complete team effort.
The Golden Eagles will take on Adams State on the road in Salt Lake City, Utah on Thursday Apr. 16 with a 6 p.m. start time.
