IRVINE, Calif. – CUI battled through an early test and came out on top in impressive fashion defeating Jessup in four sets with scores 23–25, 25–19, 25–14, and 25–18. Despite a narrow opening set loss the Golden Eagles responded with confidence and control taking command of the match behind a surge of momentum and consistent execution.
The CUI men's volleyball team showcased a strong all-around effort powered by an efficient offense and steady defensive play across the lineup.
Leading the charge was
Christian Galoppo who delivered a dominant performance with 21 kills on 35 attempts hitting an impressive .486. The junior was unstoppable at the net and reached a career-high kills topping his previous 17 from 2024.
Ties Cornelissen provided a strong presence adding 10 kills while hitting .333 along with contributions at the net and from the service line.
Logan Whitaker also chipped in with eight kills helping maintain offensive pressure throughout the match.
Running the offense was setter
Matt Fisher who orchestrated the attack masterfully with 38 assists. His distribution allowed multiple hitters to find rhythm contributing to the Golden Eagles balanced scoring output. Fisher also added seven digs and two kills.
Defensively
Joseph Nunez anchored the back row with a team-high nine digs. Additional defensive support came from Galoppo with seven digs and Cornelissen adding six.
At the net CUI contributed with timely blocking including efforts from
Nathan Habermas and
Paul Schulteis who helped disrupt the Warriors attack. Both middles had two block assists along with a combined seven kills.
The Golden Eagles will be back on the court as they finish the series against Jessup in the CU Arena Friday Apr. 10 with a 6 p.m. start time.
