IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine men's soccer team beat Cal State San Marcos on Saturday in an absolute thriller, 3-2.
The first half was back and forth. Concordia opened up the scoring in the 62nd minute with a goal by defender Jonathan Moreno who was assisted by midfielder Marcus Ozmai. This was the first goal for the 2026 season.
In the 72nd minute, defender David Garcia scored a long goal to make the score 2-0. Moreno was credited with the assist.
Goalkeeper Sebastian Marin had three saves on the evening. However after Marin got in a scuffle with CSUSM player Daniel Schembri, it left both teams with 10 players remaining on the pitch for each team.
CSUSM tied the game at 2-2 after a penalty kick in the 79th minute.
The game winning goal was scored by forward Andy Jun in the 84th minute, who tallied his first goal of the season. Moreno got his second assist on this play with a cross, capping off a brilliant day. He finished the game with one goal and two assists.
The Golden Eagles defense held strong for the remaining six minutes clinching the victory 3-2, with help from midfielder Gianluca Guimaraes and goalkeeper Rowan Johnson, who came in for Marin.
The men will now head to Lakewood, Colo. to face Colorado Christian on Thursday, Sept. 3rd. The game will start at 10:00 a.m. PT.
