Irvine, Calif - The Golden Eagles closed the weekend with two hard-fought matchups against nationally ranked competition, showcasing their offensive firepower and ability to compete from start to finish. Concordia faced No. 16 Loyola Marymount in Game 1 before taking on UC Irvine in Game 2, producing 18 total goals across the two contests while continuing to create opportunities on both ends of the pool. With strong individual performances, balanced scoring and a relentless offensive approach, the Golden Eagles gained valuable experience against two highly competitive opponents as they prepare for their next challenge at the Inland Empire Classic.
Game 1: CUI 9, LMU 20
The Golden Eagles battled throughout the afternoon but ultimately fell to No. 16 Loyola Marymount, 20-9, in a competitive matchup. The Golden Eagles continued to generate opportunities offensively, finishing with 28 shots and 16 points, while putting nine goals on the board against the nationally ranked Lions.
Levi Riegelmann led the Golden Eagles offensively, firing seven shots and finishing with two goals and two assists for a team-high four points. Hugo Wouters and Dimitrios Koritsas each recorded four shots, with Wouters adding two goals and two assists for four points. Jadon Pendergrass contributed two goals and one assist on two shots, while Caleb Luby finished with one goal and one assist on three shots. Wes Brazda added two assists on one shot, while Nicolas Fuchs recorded one goal and one assist on three shots. Dante Soldati Ianora also scored one goal on three shots, while Canyon Johnson recorded one shot.
Concordia's defense was tested throughout the contest, with Derek Maddox making five saves in 16 minutes of action. Hale Durbiano added three saves in 11 minutes, while Ethan Sutherland played five minutes. As a team, the Golden Eagles recorded eight saves.
Despite the final score, Concordia continued to create offensive chances against a nationally ranked opponent, recording 28 shots and seven assists. The Golden Eagles will look to build on the offensive production and defensive effort as they continue their season.
Game 2: CUI 9 , UCI 16
Joao Goncalves led Concordia with four goals on seven shots, providing a major spark offensively. Dimitrios Koritsas added two goals on six shots, while Wes Brazda scored one goal on two shots. Nicolas Fuchs had an outstanding all-around performance, recording one goal and three assists on two shots for a team-high four points. Dante Soldati Ianora added one goal on four shots. Concordia finished with nine goals, four assists and 13 total points.
The Golden Eagles also made an impact defensively, recording 16 steals and 13 blocks while drawing 13 exclusions. Derek Maddox made nine saves in 16 minutes of action, while Ethan Sutherland played 16 minutes. Concordia finished with nine saves as a team.
Despite the result, Concordia's 34 shots matched UCI's total and the Golden Eagles continued to compete offensively from start to finish. With four goals from Goncalves, four points from Fuchs and nine team goals, Concordia showed its ability to create opportunities and produce against a nationally ranked opponent.
