The CUI men's water polo team battled against Division I opponent California Baptist, with the Golden Eagles continuing to compete hard throughout a challenging matchup.CUI put together a balanced offensive effort, recording eight goals on 29 shots while earning 12 exclusions and producing seven steals on the defensive end. Against Redlands, the Golden Eagles put together a 13-goal effort in a tightly contested battle. The Golden Eagles found the back of the net 13 times on 32 shots while drawing 18 exclusions and recording nine steals. CUI also won four sprints and received contributions throughout the lineup in a game that came down to the final moments.
CUI 8, CBU 21
Hugo Wouters led the Golden Eagles offensively with three goals and three assists for a team-high six points. He also drew one exclusion and recorded two steals while providing an all-around effort for CUI. Dimitrios Koritsas added two goals and one assist, along with a pair of steals, while Dante Soldati Ianora also scored twice and contributed two exclusions drawn and three steals. Wes Brazda added one goal and one assist, while Joao Goncalves chipped in one goal and one assist. Goncalves also recorded two exclusions and two field blocks in the contest.
The Golden Eagles continued to create opportunities throughout the game, drawing seven exclusions and finishing 2-for-2 on sprints. CUI also recorded seven steals as a team, with Soldati Ianora leading the defensive effort with three. In goal, Hale Durbiano made five saves in 16:00 of action, while Derek Maddox added one save over 16:00.
Despite the result, the Golden Eagles showed plenty of fight against a Division I opponent and will look to build on the experience as they continue through the season.
CUI 13, Redlands 14
Hugo Wouters led the Golden Eagles with three goals and three assists for six points. He also added one exclusion drawn, one steal, two field blocks and won a sprint in an all-around performance. Dimitrios Koritsas added three points with two goals and one assist, while Wes Brazda contributed two goals and two assists. Brazda also drew two exclusions, recorded two steals and one field block.
Joao Goncalves scored twice and added two exclusions drawn, two steals and one field block. Kaliq Khan also finished with three points after scoring twice and adding one assist, along with one exclusion drawn, one steal and a sprint victory. Levi Riegelmann and Nicolas Fuchs each added a goal, while Porter Rosenlof, Caleb Luby and Canyon Johnson also contributed to the offensive effort.
Defensively, Dante Soldati Ianora led the way with three steals, while Hale Durbiano and Derek Maddox combined for five saves in the cage. Maddox played 18:25 and made three saves, while Durbiano played 13:35 and recorded two saves.

The Golden Eagles will look to build tomorrow as they continue tournament play with two more matchups. CUI will take on Cal State Fullerton at 9:30 a.m. before closing out the day against Cal Lutheran at 5 p.m.
