ARCATA, Calif. – Concordia University Irvine women's soccer scored twice in the final six minutes to rally past Cal Poly Humboldt, 3-2, Saturday afternoon at College Creek Field.
The Golden Eagles trailed twice in the second half but continued to battle, ultimately finding the game-winner with just 46 seconds remaining.
After a scoreless opening half, Cal Poly Humboldt broke through in the 60th minute when Sari Murphy found the back of the net to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 advantage.
Concordia responded just 67 seconds later. Irandy Erazo played a ball to Ashley Grubert, who finished the opportunity to quickly level the match at 1-1. Grubert finished the afternoon with a team-high two shots, including one on target.
Humboldt regained the lead in the 76th minute when Kyla Okamoto scored to put the Lumberjacks ahead 2-1.
The Green and Gold answered once again, with Sarah Venegas finding the equalizer in the 85th minute. Tess Doucette provided the assist as Venegas scored her first goal of the season to make it 2-2.
With time winding down, Bella Barrett delivered the decisive moment. The senior forward scored in the 90th minute to complete the comeback and send Concordia home with its second victory of the season.
Barrett finished with one shot on target and now has 16 career goals for the Golden Eagles.
Goalkeeper Christina Sidoti played all 90 minutes in net, making three saves while earning her second victory of the season.
The Golden Eagles finished with six shots and three corner kicks, while Humboldt recorded 15 shots and two corners.
Concordia improves to 2-0-0 on the young season and will now prepare for its first road match against Cal State San Marcos.
CUI returns to action Thursday, Sept. 3 at Cal State San Marcos. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. PT
