SAN MARCOS, Calif. — The Concordia University Irvine women's soccer team battled Cal State San Marcos to a 1-1 draw Thursday night at The Cage.
The Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Antonella Russo found the back of the net to give CUI a 1-0 advantage. Concordia held CSUSM scoreless through the remainder of the first half, taking the lead into the break.
Cal State San Marcos answered in the second half, earning a penalty kick in the 64th minute. Nani Kia'aina converted the opportunity to bring the match level at 1-1.
The Golden Eagles continued to look for a second goal late in the match. Sarah Venegas put a shot on goal in the 84th minute, but CSUSM goalkeeper Jordan Stemberga made the save. Neither side was able to break the deadlock in the final minutes as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Christina Sidoti played all 90 minutes in goal for the Golden Eagles and recorded two saves. CUI finished the match with four shots and six corner kicks, while CSUSM recorded 12 shots and seven corners.
The Golden Eagles move to 2-0-1 on the season following Thursday's result. The team returns home for their 2026 home opener on Saturday, Sept. 5, when they host Cal State San Bernardino at Golden Eagles Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
