IRVINE, Calif. – Recently named PacWest Player of the Week
Ashley Grubert net her third goal of the season to help propel No. 13 Concordia past Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday evening.
In a game that featured two teams that combined for over 30 total shots, it turned out that just one attempt in the sixth minute of action would wind up being the lone tally on the night.
Concordia senior
Bella Barrett stuck her foot out to steal possession of the ball on the Coyotes side of the pitch, and proceeded to push the ball ahead to a cutting Grubert. The senior connection worked to perfection and Grubert capitalized with her one-on-one opportunity that quickly presented itself.
Goalkeeper
Christina Sidoti came up with eight saves, including a clutch stop at point-blank range late in the match. Cal State San Bernardino did not back down from the challenge and actually outshot Concordia 20 to 13.
The Coyotes kept the pressure on with multiple scoring chances in the second half but ultimately could not convert.
Concordia returns to action this coming Thursday, Sept. 10 in a highly anticipated match up of nationally-ranked NCAA DII teams in the west region.
In what could be a playoff preview down the line, Concordia will visit No. 2 Cal Poly Pomona in a clash of Top 20 squads. That match is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. PT start time.
After that clash, the Golden Eagles are back home again two days later on Saturday, Sept 12 for a 11:00 am matinee against Simon Fraser University, who was recently receiving votes in
the IWSOC National Top 25 poll.
