IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine women's volleyball team swept Hawai'i Hilo 3-0 and advanced to 2-0 in PacWest Conference play. CUI won the sets 25-16, 25-17 and 25-13.
Concordia won the first set where the score went back and forth early with five lead changes until CUI broke through. They took a controlling lead,taking the set 25-16. The Golden Eagles ended the set with a hitting percentage of .229, while holding the Vulcans to a .053 mark.
The second set started with Concordia jumping out to a 4-0 start and never looking back. The biggest lead of the set was 10 points when CUI went up 23-13. The Golden Eagles as a team had 15 kills in the set and won 25-17.
Concordia took the third set and the match. The Golden Eagles complete their second sweep in conference play and seventh sweep overall on the season.
Senior outside hitter Kayden Croy led with 12 kills on the evening. Croy finished the night with a hitting percentage of .429 and 6 block assists, leading the Golden Eagles.
Freshman outside hitter Livia Eyre ended the night with 11 kills and 11 digs earning the double-double.
Graduate setter Nevada Knowles continued her great season with a team-lead 28 assists and 4 service aces. She used her signature dump kill to her advantage all night, keeping Hilo on their heels.
Concordia ended the night with a .281 hitting percentage and kept Hilo to a .046 clip. CUI also had 7 blocks as a whole.
The women look to stay unbeaten in conference play on Friday, Sept.18th against Hawai'i Pacific back at CU Arena. The game will start at 6:00 p.m. PT.
