IRVINE, Calif. – Sarah Guglielmana earned her first PacWest Defender of the Week Award on Tuesday after helping the Golden Eagles to a perfect 3-0 week at the Orange County Classic.

Concordia University Irvine broke out the brooms on all three occasions, defeating Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State Monterey Bay and Menlo with 3-0 sweeps.

The freshman had a hand in a whopping 14 blocks in three matches, averaging 1.56 blocks/set during Concordia's three sweeps of CCAA foes at the Orange County Classic. This included a career-high seven blocks against Menlo on Saturday.

Guglielmana already has four games with at least four block assists. Including all three matches this past week, she has now had three straight appearances with at least three blocks at the net.

After smoothly improving to 6-1 on the young season, CUI is receiving votes in the AVCA NCAA DII Poll for the second straight week.

This is an important week for the Green and Gold with two great opportunities to showcase their skills against quality competition. Wednesday will be the PacWest Conference opener at home against Westmont at 6 p.m. PT.

Then CUI visits former PacWest foe and fifth-ranked Fresno Pacific on Friday night.
