Eagles Sweep Two Canadian Schools, Move To 3-0

The Rundown:  The Concordia Eagles have won all nine sets so far this year, and beat King's (CAN) and Regina (CAN) at home on Saturday.

King's

By the Numbers:  Concordia played a lot of guys and the numbers were balanced.  Spencer Lane hit .636 with seven kills.  Ryan Anselmo added six and Joseph Pillon had four kills, eight assists, and an ace.

The Difference:  CUI hit .262 and held King's to .103, and outblocked them 8-5.5.  CUI had a 60% sideout percentage while King's was under 50% at 47%. 

Critical Plays:  It was King's who led 6-2 in set one, but a kill from Pillon and ace from Andrew Hammer put CUI ahead 9-7.  King's came back to tie at 15.  The Eagles jumped back ahead and won 25-19.  Taylor Falduti capped back-to-back blocks as CUI led 10-6 in set two.  Pillon smashed an ace down the line to keep a CUI rally going, 18-11 in game two.  A kill from Ryan Anselmo ended the game, 25-18.  Three straight blocks from CUI put them ahead 8-5 in set three.  King's did not go away though, and closed to 17-16.  King's led 19-17, but CUI came back to tie at 19 and lead 20-19.  CUI took the set 25-22. 

Regina

By the Numbers:  Devin Ross had 11 kills hitting .381, and Ryan Anselmo added eight.  Spencer Lane had seven kills and Cristian Rodriguez ran setter with 36 assists.  Ross had three aces and Pillon had two.

The Difference:  CUI hit .361 while holding Regina at .160, and CUI won at the net 8-6.5.  CUI had an impressive 73% sideout percentage, and were at 92% in set three.

Critical Plays:  Devin Ross had two early kills and CUI jumped ahead 9-4.  The Cougars closed within two, but CUI took the set 25-22.  Set two was close early and Ryan Anselmo recorded a solo block to put Concordia up 10-8.  Regina came back to tie at 13.  After briefly trailing, CUI regained the lead 17-14 on two Anselmo kills.  Regina got within one, but CUI took it 25-21.  CUI was active on the blocks, leading 8-4 in set three. 

What it Means:  The Eagles are 3-0 on the season.
