The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles have yet to drop a set this season, as they defeated Charleston (WV) 3-0 on Monday night at home.
By the Numbers: 12 Eagles recorded kills as coach Shawn Patchell mixed and matched his lineups once again. Timothy Moses and Dylan Thompson led had four kills and Andrew Hammer led with five. Cristian Rodriguez had 25 assists and Ryan Murphy had five digs.
The Difference: The Eagles were outblocked 7.5-3, but hit .333 compared to .235 for UC and recorded a 74% sideout percentage, including 91% in set one. Charleston had more kills but made 16 errors.
Critical Plays: Multiple errors early from UC gave CUI the 11-4 lead. A kill from Moses and ace from Rodriguez continued to pour it on, 17-7. The Eagles ran away 25-11. The Eagles trailed 5-3 in set two, but regained the advantage 7-5. CUI jumped ahead 19-16, but UC closed 19-18. A block from Spencer Lane and Josiah Bergt put the Eagles up 22-21. CUI held on 25-23. It was the Golden Eagles leading in set three, 13-10. Two kills from Hunter Howell and two UC errors brought CUI back, 16-15. CUI added some more to the lead and won 25-22.
What it Means: The Eagles have now won 26-straight matches at home, with their last loss coming on January 17, 2014. They are now 4-0 on the young season.
