CUI Sweeps Holy Names, Swept By Cal Baptist

The Rundown: The Concordia Eagles beat Holy Names 3-0 and lost to Cal Baptist 0-3 on Saturday, both games at CBU in Riverside, CA.

Concordia 3, Holy Names 0

By the Numbers:  Ryan Anselmo led CUI with 13 kills hitting .500.  Josiah Bergt added nine kills and Isaiah Kaaa had 13 assists.  Hunter Howell led CUI with six blocks.

The Difference:  CUI hit .292 and held HNU to .022 and had 14 more assists. 

Critical Plays:  Set one was close early, but CUI pulled ahead 18-14 on a block from Bergt and Dylan Thompson.  HNU closed to 20-19, but a kill from Nicholas Bauer, and a block from Kaaa and Howell gave CUI the 25-21 win.  HNU led set two 11-8, but CUI tied at 13 on a block from Thompson and Howell.  Three kills from Anselmo saw CUI finish in a flurry, 25-21.  The Eagles dominated set three early 18-8, capped by two kills from Bergt.  HNU pulled within 22-17, but two kills from Taylor Falduti helped CUI win 25-19. 

Concordia 0, Cal Baptist 3

By the Numbers:  Andrew Hammer led with 12 kills and Taylor Falduti added six. 

The Difference:  CUI was outblocked 11-3 and hit .233, compared to .423 for CBU.

Critical Plays:  CBU pulled ahead 19-14, and even though a block from Joseph Pillon made it 21-18, CUI fell 25-20 in set one.  The Eagles trailed by one the majority of set two, but tied at 23 on a CBU error.  CBU won 25-23 with two-straight to finish.  Two kills from Spencer Lane helped CUI grab a 12-9 lead in set three.  They held the lead until CBU took it 21-20.  With the set tied at 22, CBU scored the final three points.

What it Means:  CUI falls to 8-2 overall on the year.
