After a low-scoring first half saw the Eagles fall behind Cal Baptist, 3-0, the Green and Gold were determined to turn up the intensity.
The good news was that the Eagles were able to generate a lot of quality scoring chances.
The bad news was that they could not solve Cal Baptist goalie Tommy Lotero and ultimately lost, 12-2.
The Eagles outshot the Lancers 28-26 but about half a dozen of those attempts ricocheted off the posts.
"Offensively we just couldn't convert on our great opportunities," said Concordia head coach
Dreason Barry. "They did a better job of fouling (at the right times) and slowing the ball down."
After falling behind 4-0,
Marius Jakimcikas put the Eagles on the board in the third quarter to trim the deficit to three.
Â
Austin Barton added a late goal in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles were unable to dig out of that early hole.
Patrik Zsiros took six shots on the afternoon and
Nick Walker fired four more shot attempts but neither could cash in.
Senior goalie
Alfredo De La Mora registered eight saves between the pipes. Â He and
Gibson Gerace each came up with two steals to lead the Green and Gold in that category.
"Defensively in the first half we played well," added Barry. "Defensive errors just caught us in the second half."
Tanner Shore, Hunter Barnett, Logan Mena and Dominick Nevarez led a balanced attack for the visitors with two goals apiece.
Concordia will look to regroup with about ten days before its next match. The team returns to action Saturday, Oct. 20 in its alumni game at Northwood high school.Â
The next home game for the Eagles will take place on a Thursday afternoon against Santa Clara at 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 25.
