Concordia Swim finishes strong at PCSC Championships

LA MIRADA, Calif. — Concordia Swim and Dive finished strong in the final two days of the PCSC Championships hosted by Biola. Splash! Aquatics Center held 13 women's teams and six mens teams including UC San Diego, Pepperdine, UC Santa Cruz, Loyola Marymount among others. Eagles men's team secured fourth place while the women swam for seventh. Maddie Dodge broke her third school record of her career during the Saturday Prelims, posting a time of 1:00.41 in the 100 yard Individual Medley. 

Day Three  

Taylor Steffen continued his presence as a top finisher after breaking the school record in the Men's 1,000 yard freestyle on day one. The freshman finished sixth in the Men's 400 yard Individual Medley on Friday with 4:15.58 race time. 

The Men's team followed Steffen's lead posting a fifth place finish in the men 400 yard medley relay. Skyler Hojnacki finished sixth in the men's 100 yard breaststroke while Gabriel Phillips grabbed seventh in the men's 100 yard backstroke. 

Tatiana Padilla and Dominique Yoder led the women with a seventh place finish each. Padilla in the women's 200 yard freestyle and Yoder in the women's 100 yard breaststroke. 

After finals on Friday night, the women's team occupied eighth place with 402 total points, just behind Loyola Marymount. The men stood in fifth place totaling 819.5 points, about 400 points ahead of Biola. 

Day Four

On the final day of the PCSC Championships, the Eagles men's team was led once again by Steffen who recorded a fifth place finish in the 1650 yard freestyle. Hojnacki grabbed sixth place in the men's 200 yard breaststroke. Minh Dang came in eighth in the men's 200 yard butterfly and the men 400 yard freestyle relay team closed it out with a fifth place finish. 

Swimming in the preliminaries of Saturday's PCSC Championships, Maddie Dodge (SO, Tacoma, WA) set her third school record of her career and meet by lowering the record in the 100 Yard Individual Medley with a time of 1:00.41.  She was swimming an 'exhibition' event but her time would have placed her sixth overall in the women's competition.  

She previously set records in the 200 Yard Individual Medley on Thursday and 800 Yard Freestyle Relay with teammates Tatiana Padilla, Marleigh Aulis and Heather Heacock on Wednesday.

For the women's team, Yoder took seventh once again in the women's 200 yard breaststroke. Bailee Blankemeier made a statement in the women 200 yard butterfly with a seventh place finish. 

At the end of day four, the men's team jumped one place securing fourth in the conference meet the women's team improved one place finishing in seventh, notching 589 total points. 

CUI men posted 1108.5 points
