IRVINE, Calif. – For the second time this fall, true freshman
Rachel Maki is the PCSC Freshman Swimmer of the Week!
The first-year swimmer dazzled in the pool this past weekend while
competing for CUI in a local double dual with Biola and host Chapman. Maki posted impressive victories in both the 500 and 1650 freestyle events against tech-suited opponents.
Maki already owns a provisional NCAA qualifying time in the 500, and she rallied in the final 25 yards to steal a win by just 0.3 seconds in that event. In the mile, she took control at the 300 mark and swam a very steady pace to post a PCSC Top-15 time.
Her overall workload added to the impressive nature of these wins as she also swam the 100-200 freestyles and was on two CUI relays.
We look forward to what is in store down the line for Maki and all the Golden Eagles when the swimming season resumes in January after Christmas! CUI visits San Diego State for an upcoming invitational before hosting the OC Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 13 at Woollett Aquatics Center.
