CUI senior third baseman
Nick Grimes hit .500 (8-for-16) during his team's recent four-game series against No. 14 Point Loma.
After he helped the Eagles pick up two wins over the Top-25 ranked Sea Lions, Grimes has been selected as the Newport Rib Company Eagle of the Week.
In Friday's 10-9 road victory over the Sea Lions, Grimes went 3-for-5 with a walk and two doubles. He scored the winning run in the top of the tenth inning that night on a RBI single by
Jair Donovan and followed that up with a pair of multi-hit games on Saturday as the Eagles split both games for the second straight day.
Grimes entered CUI's eight-game road trip on a six-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 contests entering the series against Fresno Pacific.
The senior from Laguna Niguel, Calif. also delivered the walk-off RBI single to top Cal State Dominguez Hills back on February 26. That clutch game-winning hit down the left field line
propelled the Eagles to a thrilling 4-3 victory in ten innings.
Grimes and his teammates have a knack for overcoming adversity this season. Both wins over No. 14 Point Loma last week came after CUI lost the first game of the two doubleheaders. The Green and Gold have also proven they are unafraid when it comes to performing under pressure, as Concordia has played ten innings on four different occasions. Most recently, the victory over the Sea Lions improved CUI's record to 2-2 when games go at least ten frames.
After facing the FPU Sunbirds four times this weekend, the Eagles will visit Academy of Art University up in the Bay Area before returning home for games with Azusa Pacific in April.
