IRVINE, Calif. – After an outstanding performance at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Concordia University Irvine senior
Josh Fry was rewarded for his efforts as the new PacWest Men's Track Athlete of the Week.
Fry set a school record and a personal record in the pole vault this past weekend while competing at Azusa Pacific University. Fry launched himself perfectly and cleared the bar at 16 feet, 0.75 inches which placed him sixth in the event. The Bryan Clay Invitational is an annual meet featuring many of the nation's top performers descending on Southern California from as far as Arkansas to schools in neighboring states like Arizona.
"Josh's school record is well-deserved," said CUI head coach
Keegan Bloomfield. "He's put his all into this program for four years. While he's had success in many ways, this school record is a pinnacle moment for him and our program. He's the first male to ever hit a qualifying standard for nationals, last year in the decathlon.Â
"We're so proud of Josh and what he's doing on the track," added Bloomfield. "However, the man he is and has become at CUI is more impressive. He's an excellent and dedicated teammate and friend to all in our program."
Fry and his teammates will compete for the second straight weekend in Azusa when the Eagles compete in the upcoming PacWest Conference Championships. The meet gets underway this Friday, April 26 and continues all day Saturday.
