KINGSVILLE, Texas – Concordia University Irvine speedster
Tamia Prince earned Second-Team All-American status in both the 200m dash and the 100m hurdles on Friday at the NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
In the 100m hurdles, Prince bolted across the finish line in a time of 14.03 seconds. She placed tenth overall and third in her heat. In doing so, Prince became the first CUI track and field member to place that high at Nationals since the school started competing at the NCAA DII level.
In the 200m dash, Prince raced across the line in a blistering 24.58 seconds and finished fourth in her heat. She earned the status of Second Team All-American in that event as well by virtue of placing 12th overall. There were three different heats and the top eight finishers qualified for Saturday's Finals.
Prince qualified for three different events at Nationals including the 100m dash. On Thursday, Prince finished sixth in her heat in the 100m dash preliminaries. She ultimately placed 22nd in the nation in the 100 with a time of 12.02 seconds.
"Nationals is definitely what you make it," said Prince. "The weather was warm and windy and I felt like all eyes were on me. I went out and gave it my best. I'm so blessed to have had the opportunity to compete at D2 Outdoor Nationals."
"She represented CUI and the PacWest exceptionally well," said CUI track and field head coach
Keegan Bloomfield. "She's our first-ever multi-event qualifier and she competed against the best of the best and held her own. She's such a talented young woman and to watch her bounce back and be Second-Team All-American twice in one day speaks to her competitiveness and drive. The coaching staff and I are so proud of the season she's had. She's set the bar high for next year and for generations to come."
The Championships were hosted by Texas A&M University-Kingsville at Javelina Stadium. For the official list of 2019 DII All-Americans in both men's and women's track and field,

In addition to setting multiple school records over the course of the season,
Prince helped the CUI women's track and field team earn its highest ranking in Concordia's DII era and also
emerged victorious at the PacWest Conference Championships in both the 100 hurdles and the 200.
This is the second consecutive year that a member of the CUI women's track and field team has qualified to compete at the Outdoor Track and Field Championships since the school completed the transition from NAIA to NCAA DII. In May 2018,
Sarah Herron ultimately
finished 17th in the women's long jump.
Herron was recently named CUI Female Athlete of the Year at the 2019 Concordia Senior Awards Banquet.
Prince is also part of a CUI quartet that was named 2019 All-Region selections by the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Prince represents CUI and the PacWest Conference on the West Region squad in all three events that she qualified for Nationals.
