Newport Rib Company Eagle of the Week: Addison Enriques

By Kara Vincitorio

IRVINE, Calif. – We are spotlighting the libero from the Concordia men’s volleyball team, Addison Enriques, as this week’s Newport Rib Company Eagle of the Week.

Enriques is from Hawaii and is majoring in business and hopes to expand his growth in the business industry.

“I am still looking for new experiences with my business major to help me find the job I’m happy with. My Sport Management professor that I had always encourages me to find a job that encompasses my hobbies and something that I will enjoy doing,” explained Enriques.

When he isn’t on the court he enjoys surfing, fishing, gaming, and hanging with friends.

I like to believe that I have some athleticism that allows me to play other sports. But I wouldn’t say I have another favorite sport. I grew up playing a lot of sports and I always like to have friendly competitions with my teammates and I know my friends hate it because I’m always asking them to do something with me. But it’s all just fun and games with my friends.

In the unexpected shortened 2020 season due to COVID-19, Enriques led the MPSF with 192 digs and an average of 2.53 digs per set.  The Hawaii native had a career-high of 20 digs against UC Irvine in a four set battle on Feb. 6.

Enriques has set many Concordia records such as assists, sets played, and matches played. He has just jumped up to third all-time in digs with 480 and has his senior year to add more.

When asked what the best memory has been these past three years for him, he responded, “I think my best memory I have at Concordia has to be my first year attending Concordia. It was a completely different experience and a huge change in lifestyle for me since I grew up on an island. And I’m very grateful for every experience I’ve had at Concordia so far.”

The Hawaii native recently received All-American Honorable Mention by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) and was named All-MPSF Second-Team this past 2020 season.

Addie brings joy and aloha every day to the floor. He trains hard but really has fun playing the sport we love. Addie is our captain and leads by example.

When asked what drew him to Concordia he responded, “I felt Concordia was an easy pick for me. Concordia is located in one of the safest locations in the US and almost right next to the beach,” added Enriques. “I also decided to attend Concordia for its volleyball program. Concordia Volleyball competes with the highest level of competition that volleyball offers. Also, I wanted to join to compete against all of my brothers in the 2018 school year.”

In 2018, he was able to play against two of his brothers in the MPSF conference as his older brother Evan played for Stanford, while his twin brother Avery donned purple at Grand Canyon. He also faced another brother, Emmett, who played libero for Cal State Northridge after spending his first two seasons at Cal Baptist.

Some advice Enriques would give a freshman is, “If I could give any advice it would to be go out and experience new things, go check out the beaches and meet new people and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. And for in school experience, always sit in the front of the class and don’t be afraid to ask questions.”
