The drive to be great has definitely shown in Carlson’s career. In 2018, he had 24 kills, 15 digs, 13 blocks, two assists, and two aces for the season. In 2019, he had 55 kills, 61 digs, 18 blocks, and 11 aces for the season. And in 2020, he had 70 kills, 92 digs, 23 blocks, 30 assists and five aces for the season.
He also has a record book appearance for the match against Benedictine. He ranked in the individual match records under aces in three sets.
One of Carlson’s favorite athletic memories so far “is beating UCI at home on [his] birthday”.
Over the past two years Carlson has also kept busy in the athletic department. He is a student worker and a video live stream play-by-play broadcaster for the women's volleyball team.
When he is not playing volleyball or working at school he enjoys rollerblading, skiing, and thinking.
If Carlson was able to give an incoming freshman a piece of advice it “would be to figure out what you love and do that thing, don’t spend your time doing what other people want you to love. Also be accountable to yourself and you will become your own best friend.”
