IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine baseball team landed a total of five Eagles on two different All-Region teams this week.

Pitcher Evan Larsen and outfielder Matt Lautz were both First Team All-Region selections by the D2CCA (Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association).  First baseman Bailey Collins and designated hitter Cooper Moore were both named Second Team All-Region by the D2CCA.
 
D2CCA selections are nominated and voted on by sports information directors in the PacWest, GNAC and CCAA in the NCAA DII West Region.

Meanwhile, CUI outfielder Jair Donovan joined Collins, Lautz and Moore as Second Team All-Region selections by the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

It's the second time in his career that Moore has been named Second Team All-Region by both organizations at the designated hitter position.  His 11 homers and team-high 41 RBI certainly had something to do with that. The Huntington Beach, Calif. native also sported a team-best .364 batting average among starters and a whopping 1.179 OPS which was really impressive. Moore finished his CUI career ranked in the top five at CUI in career homers (24) despite playing just three seasons.

Lautz patrolled centerfield brilliantly for the third straight year and used his speed on the bases to make an impact out of the No. 2 spot in the batting order.  The Agoura Hills High School alum led CUI in runs (45), walks (27) and on-base percentage (.470) as well as doubles (9) and triples (3)... He hit .331 and was second on the squad with four homers and also five steals.

Evan Larsen was also named the PacWest Newcomer of the Year and led all CUI starting pitchers with 59 strikeouts as one of the featured Saturday hurlers. He was undefeated (5-0) in nine starts and led the CUI starting rotation with a 4.08 ERA & posted at least seven strikeouts in four of his nine starts.

Collins tied the school record for career homers (35) and leaves his legacy at Concordia ranked No. 1 in career walks and putouts as well.  The Littleton, Colo. native was an on-base machine, cranking a PacWest-best 14 homers this season while hitting seven long balls in his final 13 games.

Donovan was first on the team with 10 steals this year, while hitting .321 with four homers and 22 RBI. The right fielder from Chino Hills, Calif. sported a .453 on-base percentage and ranks Top 6 all-time at CUI with 19 career homers.

All five of these outstanding Eagles were either First Team or Second Team All-PacWest selections in addition to helping CUI finish 10-3 down the stretch.  The final home games of the season featured a sweep of Fresno Pacific on a memorable Senior Day for 19 outgoing Eagles.
