CUI's Jade Hughes Secures PCSC Athlete of the Week

IRVINE, Calif . - Sophomore Jade Hughes was awarded the honor of Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference (PCSC) Division II Co-Swimmer of the Week for her strong performance over the weekend.

On Saturday, Hughes swam the 1000 free. With 300 yards left to go, she turned on the jets to come from behind and secure first place in that race over Division 1 Grand Canyon University.

A Henderson, Nevada native and graduate of the Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas, Hughes also shined in the 200 breast against Arizona Christian and Ottawa University, where she came in third overall. In the 400 IM, Hughes finished second against those two NAIA schools.

"Jade has worked as hard as anyone since we started back on August 31," CUI head coach Bert Bergen said. "She is a determined trainer and who appreciates grinding out yardage. She's exceptionally versatile and will be a huge part of the team's success at the PCSC Championships next month. We are thrilled that she is receiving this well-deserved honor."

Concordia hosts Fresno Pacific and UC Santa Cruz in its next meet this coming Saturday, Jan 22 at 12 p.m. The event will be live streamed at cuieagles.com/live and will take place at nearby Portola High School.
