IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 11 Concordia University Irvine men's lacrosse team (1-0) kicked off its 2022 season with a dominant conference win on the road against UCLA.

The Eagles came out hot right out of the gates building a 7-1 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the teams traded possessions as they both settled in. With two minutes left in the half, CUI went on a flurry scoring four unanswered goals.
CUI built a comfortable 13-3 lead going into the half. In the third quarter the Bruins went on their run scoring five goals.
The Eagles withstood the run, and stayed focused in order to finish the game. It was a full team win with everyone on the roster getting significant playing time. Â
Cade Poe was once again dominant at the face off X going 22 of 26 (85%) and scooping up 15 ground balls. The offense was led by Andrew Buckley (5 goals),
Chad McFadden (4 goals), and
Brett Masaki (4 goals). Buckley kept the hot hand going 5-8 (62%) on shooting.
Tyler Collins dished out 4 assists in the win. The defensive unit of
Santiago DeArmas, Jacob Cloutier,and
Braden Schneider were dominant in their first half action. Goalies
Tyler Schweickert (57%) and
Daniel Yang (53%) were also lights out.

"These types of games are always difficult but the players stayed focus for all four quarters," said CUI head coach
Jesse Foss. "I was proud how the team responded when UCLA went on their run. We stayed the course and kept their attention on our team and making the next play".
The Eagles are now 1-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference. Concordia returns to action this coming week with a road game at No. 6 Cal Poly. This will be a hard fought SLC vs WCLL conference matchup!
