Lacrosse Trio Earns National & Regional Acclaim

Cloutier & Carresi Named Honorable Mention All-Americans; Freshman Loudermilk Also All-Region

IRVINE, Calif. – Concordia University Irvine men's lacrosse standouts Matt Carresi and Jake Cloutier have been named Honorable Mention All-Americans by USA Lacrosse.

Freshman face off specialist Dawson Loudermilk also joined Carresi and Cloutier as USILA All-Region selections on Monday. All three earned Honorable Mention among a small crop of the region's very best at their respective positions.

Cloutier is a former RMAC Defensive Player of the Year and was one of the leaders on the team in both ground balls and caused turnovers as well. He routinely was tasked with trying to lock down leading scorers on opposing teams, and he was up for the task, as CUI held opponents to single digits in goals nine times this season.

"Jake had another unprecedented year," said CUI head coach Jesse Foss. "After battling back from a mid-season injury, Jake set the tone on the defensive end of the field. He consistently matched up against and shut down each opponent's top offensive threat, regardless of position."

Carresi racked up a team-high 36 assists and 73 points while also finishing second on the squad with 37 goals behind teammate Jeremy Barnes (47 goals). Named the MVP of the RMAC Conference Tournament, Carresi also capitalized on Man-Up opportunities, with eight of his goals coming when CUI had a man advantage after drawing a penalty.

"Matt had his most consistent season as a Golden Eagle, leading the RMAC in both total points and assists," explained Foss. "Matt displayed incredible toughness throughout the year and emerged not only as our offensive leader statistically, but also as one of the vocal leaders of the offense.

Loudermilk won nearly 67 percent of his draws in the face off X and led Concordia with 194 victories on draws. He also was first on the team with 132 ground balls and even scored six times when joining the attack.

"Dawson got a baptism by fire this season and emerged as the top FOGO in the RMAC," added Foss. "Alongside Cade Poe, the two formed a dangerous one-two punch and were a two-headed monster all season long. Dawson delivered several huge moments down the stretch as a freshman, and we're looking forward to seeing him continue his dominance next season."

The trio helped Concordia win the RMAC Conference Tournament for the first time in program history after beating Colorado Mesa and Westminster in back-to-back overtime thrillers.

Concordia then made its first-ever appearance at the NCAA DII National Tournament and even hosted in its debut – another overtime thriller that ended up in a hard-fought 7-6 loss to Flagler in Irvine.
